AFTERCARE INFORMATION

Aftercare advice can vary from artist to artist as there is no singular correct way to look after a tattoo. The following advice is just from my own personal experience and what I would currently say is the best way to care for your tattoo. With that being said aftercare advice can sometimes change so my site will be kept up to date with what I believe is the most useful at that time.

WHAT TO AVOID AFTER A TATTOO:

- Do not re cover your tattoo during the healing process as this can suffocate the tattoo therefore leading to issues with healing.

- It is important that you keep your new tattoo out of submerged water such as a bath, swimming pools, hot tubs etc for at least 2-3 weeks.

- Keep covered from things that can cause skin damage such as hot weather or sun beds as these will dry out the tattoo

- Do not itch or pick at healing tattoos as this can cause tattoos to be patchy and lose chunks of the design when healed.

- Ensure to moisturise your tattoo with thin layers of suggested cream (written below) and do not let it dry heal.

Failure to follow this information results in clear issues with the tattoo therefore resulting in the loss of the one free touch up I usually include in a tattoo quote. All touch ups will then be charged. If you have any worries/ concerns during the healing process, don't hesitate to contact me! I'm always willing to help and have a look at healing tattoos as I want them to heal the best they can!

MOISTURISING INFORMATION:

(Please patch test any creams you haven’t used before prior to applying them to your new tattoo in case of allergic reaction)

Recommended Creams:

- Palmers Cocoa Butter (recommended): Definitely the most recommended as when used correctly it heals the tattoo well and is a suitable price at stores such as Boots and Superdrug. Available in normal or travel sized bottles.

- LUSH Dream Cream: Similar to cocoa butter but of a slightly better quality from what I have experienced. Overall isn't a major difference considering the price jump that comes with it, but definitely worth it if you're happy to pay it

- Bepanthen: Probably my least recommended out of all these creams but still does the job. However, if you have sensitive skin I would recommend to use this cream as it causes less reactions from my client’s experiences. That being said it quite often takes longer to dry as it’s quite thick and sticky. Use this if you can't get the first recommendations before resorting to creams not on the list.

I am not sponsored by any of these companies so this is purely just from personal experience.

Use of the creams:

At the end of your appointment your new tattoo would have been covered with protective gel/ cream (Tattoo Film), clingfilm or second skin. Please follow instructions depending on which you were provided with:

Tattoo Film (protective gel/ cream):

This gel gets applied at the end of your appointment and dries within a few minutes. It dissolves itself in 12 hours unless you wash it off in the shower.

1. Once dissolved/ removed gently wash the area with kitchen roll and warm water. (It is important that you don't use any soaps or shower gels on your new tattoo)

2. Once cleaned leave the tattoo to air for a couple of hours whilst ensuring that nothing that could infect the tattoo comes into contact with it.

3. After a couple of hours, clean your hands and apply a thin layer of non scented moisturising cream (recommended creams as written above) to your tattoo.

4. Everyday for the next two weeks apply a thin layer to the tattoo, two-three times a day depending on how dry the tattoo is. I would recommend to clean the tattoo before each time you apply the cream.

Clingfilm:

Keep the clingfilm on until you get home or for a couple hours before you remove it.

1. Once removed gently wash the area with kitchen roll and warm water.

Second Skin:

Second skin can be kept on for up to 48 hours after the tattoo is done with no other instruction other than to avoid the second skin from peeling past the tattoo and to try and keep fluids from spilling on the second skin. If anything is spilled on the second skin or if an ink sack forms, remove the second skin and clean with kitchen roll and warm water.

1. Once removed after the 48 hours, gently wash the area with kitchen roll and warm water.
